The DHS Science and Technology Directorate, in partnership with Montana State University’s MilTech, launched a market assessment to better understand the details of production, storage, and transportation of alternative fuels in U.S. ports and assess the associated hazards. The findings from the market assessment and research provided by CSAC resulted in the identification of four alternative fuel candidates most likely to be used in alignment with the International Maritime Organization’s goal of achieving global zero-emission shipping by 2050.
